A Minimalist Hair Salon with a Concrete and Wood Interior

SIDES CORE recently wrapped up a relocation project for a hair salon in Osaka, Japan. Vinyl’s Mix opened their new location where they wanted to incorporate art, music and more into the laid back salon. The urban surroundings, like the cement block wall of the property next door, inspired the causal, raw feel of the interior, which features concrete and unfinished wood for materials.

Instead of covering the original features, they chose to highlight them in the new design. Crisscrossing steel beams on the ceiling support lighting fixtures, while water pipes hold a bar for clothing to hang on.

Unfinished wood is used for partition walls to give the customers some privacy while not completely closing the spaces off.

A library with a staff-curated collection of books adds another cultural layer to the salon while showing off their stylists’ personalities.
