A Modern Ukrainian Apartment with Industrial Details
Sergey Makhno Architects worked with the homeowners, who are both modern and independent, to design this contemporary Ukrainian apartment. Spanning 80 square meters (approx. 861 square feet), the apartment feels cozy and accommodating with its concrete-inspired plaster walls that continue onto parts of the ceiling. Dark walnut floors round out the look, which lends itself to an industrial feel.
The main living space remains fairly neutral, with the exception of the green sofa and contents of the shelves, which are a collection of ceramics, sculptures, and vases. The design team focused on using local Ukrainian designers and manufacturers for things like the sofa, kitchen, and dining table.
The kitchen is defined with raised wooden panels that continue from the walls onto the ceiling and feature embedded lights in the grooves. The backsplash on one wall contains geometric tiles in grey, white, and a vibrant green color.
Family photos hang on the white brick wall in the bedroom above the bed.
The walls of the bedroom and one of the bathrooms were painted by a Ukrainian artists named Anna Sheremet.
