The Central Park West Collection Captures the Sophistication of Early 20th Century Design

Even among all the great architecture in New York, there is something particularly special about the buildings along Central Park West overlooking the park. We wanted to celebrate the things that make Central Park West great—the tradition, the history and the glamour.

– Alexander P. Lamis, Partner at Robert A.M. Stern Architects

Living above Central Park is iconic, luxurious and quintessentially New York. Views of skyscrapers in every direction, the bustle of the city and great design everywhere you look is the stuff of dreams. Photos of old New York and plumbing fixtures from the early 20th century are at the heart of the inspiration that lies behind the Central Park West bathroom fixtures collection. KALLISTA and internationally renowned New York-based architecture and design firm Robert A.M. Stern Architects collaborated to bring this timeless project to life, a collection versatile enough for traditional or modern aesthetics that caters to both residential and hospitality audiences.

Without a doubt, the centerpiece of the Central Park West collection is a series of faucets featuring distinctive design details that exude elegance and glamour from an earlier era. Perfectly proportioned with fluid lines, there are four options to choose from, including a stylized, elongated U-shaped design with low- and tall-spout heights, a graceful gooseneck and a sleek wall-mount style. The accompanying faucet nozzle is slightly oversized with simple fluting details. The lever handles are a work of art, creating the illusion of appearing to pass through the supports, which are appointed with a fluted ring before flowing down to the stepped base. An engraved “H” and “C” centered on the front of each bonnet are the final thoughtful touches.

The serif font we chose for the faucet markings derives from hand-chiseled lettering on classical monuments dating back to antiquity; it has over many centuries come to signify the timeless connection between the past and present.

“The fluting or knurling on the handles is reprised on the support and again at the spout, creating a pulled-together look that unifies the many elements of the collection,” said Daniel Lobitz, Partner at Robert A.M. Stern Architects who leads the firm’s product design initiatives. The classic design references, engraved fluting and stepped details found on the sink and bath faucets are employed throughout the collection, making Central Park West a distinctive new option within its category.

The collection goes beyond faucets to include freestanding, deck-mount and wall-mount bath faucets, a showerhead, pressure balance and thermostatic trim sets, 18-inch and 24-inch towel bars, a towel ring, a tissue holder and a bath hook. Central Park West also offers line-matched shower door hardware, including a shower door handle pull, 18-inch towel bar and a handle escutcheon.

“The collection feels timeless and sophisticated, we aimed to give it broad appeal,” said Alexander P. Lamis, Partner at Robert A.M. Stern Architects who leads the firm’s product design initiatives. “The fluted tooling adds sparkle to the detailing that feels very bespoke and luxurious; we gave a lot of thought to the way the hand would sense the texture. We like its taut economy of means and its scale, unlike some other fixtures that aspire to be traditional, our collection is not overwrought or clunky.
