SLIC Design Creates a Modern Glass House That Rises to the Treetops

Designed by principal designer Sara Cukerbaum of SLIC Design, this modern glass house lives high in the treetops with incredible views of downtown Austin, Texas but it’s what’s inside the home that make it truly outstanding. In addition to the beautiful curation of art, including a painting by Marc Chagall, the home has many refined details that, all together, give the home its modern ambiance.

The exterior is clad in three materials: onyx brick, white stucco and Douglas fir wood paneling. All three help the home blend into its surroundings.

The home features a second floor living space with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that let show off the greenery of the surrounding trees. The large glass doors open out to a stairwell that leads to the roof. The antique curved acrylic sofa console purchased at Mecox Gardens is just one of the pieces Cukerbaum hand selected specifically for the home.

12-foot-tall ceilings add an airy quality to the interiors while large windows and oversized glass pocket doors let natural light flood through.

This custom designed headboard covered in a Schumacher wool sateen extends to the ceiling of the room, giving it a show-stopping factor. A rectangular window cuts through to allow light in while maintaining privacy with help from the surrounding trees.

All bathroom spaces are outfitted with modern tiling and maintain a sense of cohesiveness with their black and white color palette. Black hardware, black fixtures and black cabinetry punctuate the white interiors.
