All Natural Holiday Gift Wrapping

Let's set the scene, it's Christmas morning and your family has opened all there presents and now there is a big trash bag full of paper, ribbon, and tape. Sound familiar? Wrapping presents does not have to end in a trash bag full of paper. Try wrapping with these recyclable, biodegradable, and reusable materials for beautiful gifts that are low impact!

 

Cut Up Paper Bags

Most stores now request that you bring in your own bags for shopping, however you may have one or two brown paper bags in the back of your pantry. Gather all of those bags and reuse them for your holiday gift wrapping. Use them as gift bags or use them up to wrap small gifts. This paper can be a little stiff to work with, however, if you are patient and work with it then the results are fantastic! Pro tip: add a special touch by personalizing the paper with some festive ink and stamps!

Reuse Newspapers

Done with last weeks Sunday Times? Reuse them for your wrapping necessities! Newspapers make for really unpredictable and special wrapping paper that can be dolled up all festive. Add a few fresh coffee berries for a dash of red or decorate with a sprig of pine needles.

These alternative wrapping materials are endless! Pop into the linen closet or craft box for some of your favorite fabric for some special wrapping. You can really make this gift special by using decorative fabric, a scarf, a sweater, or even a blanket. With this option your wrapping possibilities are endless.

Don't feel like wasting another box or your gift is too small? Put it in a mason jar! Beauty products, gift cards, textiles, stationery, scarves, hats, and whatever else you can fit is perfect for these old-fashioned jars. This is the perfect way to package a gift while staying zero waste.

Use Natural String

Ribbon is a holiday classic, but it too often gets thrown out along with the paper. If you cant resist the bright red or gold ribbon make sure it is biodegradable before binding your gits. Brown jute string or even cotton string for gift wrapping keeps the packaging looking rustic and comforting, however, some craft stores sell colored jute which can give your gits a holiday touch.

Like we mentioned before, we love using natural touches to spice up our gifts. Set aside those shiny bows and opt for something more natural and organic. Ask your local florist for a bundle of your favorite festive plants and flowers (eucalyptus, cotton bulbs, pine or spruce sprigs, berries, poinsettia...) or step outside and go on a hunt for some festive blossoms.
