F5: Eilyn Jimenez Tells Us What She Hopes to Design Next, a Favorite Scent + More
Eilyn Jimenez is founder and creative director of Sire Design, a Miami-based interior design studio specializing in bold and timeless residential, development, and commercial design. From a young age, she saw herself as a future attorney and a judge, yet spent most of her time redesigning and rearranging her room. It wasn’t until after Eilyn graduated high school that she realized interior design was meant to be her career path. During her second year at Universidad Latina de Costa Rica, she discovered the architecture department and switched her focus. Eilyn felt sure that interior design and architecture should work in harmony, an experience and philosophy that informs her work to this day.
Eilyn’s love of classic and modern design, together with her passion for travel and adventure, has created an ageless, daring, and distinct style that she brings to every space. Her design approach, rooted in the modernist principles of design and architecture, leads to an analytical approach to the studio’s work, while having an open-minded view of innovation. Eilyn thrives on exploring how architecture and design can impact the way people live and feel, how the design of a space can significantly impact mood and ambiance, and the ways that design can dictate how a space is used.
Eilyn is also actively involved in designing pro-bono projects, helping those in need create spaces that will benefit their lives. She has partnered with KidSanctuary Campus, a not-for-profit organization committed to providing a safe home for abused, abandoned, and neglected children in Florida.
Today Eilyn Jimenez joins us for Friday Five!
1. Travel
Traveling opens the tap to let creativity flow and allows me to learn new methods of design, embrace cultures, and grow as a person and designer. Some places have resonated with me, including Franschhoek, South Africa. The Cape winelands has an energy that is unlike any other place I’ve been – there’s a sense of peace in the air. Staying at Leeu Estates during my visit heavily inspired the design direction for my own home, and has caused a lasting impression on who I am as a person and designer.
2. Sourcing Vintage Furniture
I love searching for pieces that have a story – it’s what makes vintage pieces so unique. Besides having a piece of history (especially if it’s iconic), it adds a layer of richness to the story and fuels my inspiration. I’m currently sourcing pieces for my own studio and about to pull the trigger on two vintage 1987 Vladimir Kagan for Preview chairs in camel mohair for my personal office. They will anchor the design of the room.
3. Skiing
There’s such a thrill when you get off the ski lift to hit your first run down the mountain. Skiing at least once a year is a must for my husband and I, and we look forward to it every year. I love making memories while enjoying the crisp air, apres ski drinks, and fulfilling my need for speed. By far the best memory I have while skiing is visiting La Folie Douce in Val Thorens, France. There’s nothing like a mid-mountain party at over 2600m of altitude.
4. Jewelry
In the last five years, I’ve had an ever-growing fascination for jewelry and gemstones. Jewelry is a form of expression, and I find myself always looking at the intricacies and wanting to create my own pieces that express my personality. I foresee myself creating a line of jewelry sometime in the near future!
5. Perfume
There’s nothing like leaving a lasting impression, especially with a fragrance. I’m very keen on keeping the same perfume for years, almost like a signature scent. I feel it’s a compliment when friends and clients ask what perfume I’m wearing, and then purchase it. I believe we can create an impression not only in what we say and do, but also in our scent. It’s a form of language.
