Colorful, Trippy Tiles Made on a Custom-Built Machine
After a deep dive on Instagram recently, I came across some jaw-dropping tile designs from Studio GdB. Gilles de Brock and Jaap Giesen, the pair behind the studio not far from Rotterdam in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, became obsessed with designing and producing their own ceramic tiles. After not finding anything that could produce their desired finishes, the duo created their own custom digital printer that allows for computer-controlled application of liquid glazes. Once programed, their machine delivers liquid glaze directly on ceramic tiles in their biscuit state. The results are unique, customizable tiles in a range of bold colors and trippy patterns that feel almost handmade. Thanks to their techniques, there are endless opportunities for patterns and color schemes – you can go as tame or as wild as you want! Call me officially obsessed!
