A Long Island Home Seamlessly Blends Elegance With Functionality
Old Westbury is a minimal residence located in Long Island, New York, designed by Monica Fried Design, with architecture by Mojo Stumer. The interior design aimed to foster an ambiance of timeless elegance. Fried’s approach was to carefully select pieces that were both practical and stylish, deliberately avoiding trends or fleeting styles. Among the highlights of the home is a set of Brazilian lounge chairs by Jorge Zalszupin in the living room, setting a sophisticated tone for the remainder of the home’s furnishings.
Functionality was a key consideration in the design process, particularly in selecting materials that could withstand the demands of a young family without compromising on style. Fabrics and carpets were chosen for their durability and aesthetic appeal. The use of mostly neutral tones, enhanced by wood and stone, added depth and interest throughout the home, providing a versatile backdrop for an evolving art collection.
The entryway of the home sets a tone of lasting quality with limestone floors, warm oak paneling, and Venetian plaster walls, materials chosen for their enduring appeal. The home features a welcoming oak-paneled front entry that leads into a formal living space, with an adjoining dining room, kitchen, and family room. The upper level houses five bedrooms alongside a spacious playroom, while a fully-finished basement and a meticulously landscaped outdoor area with a pool complete the residence.
